Profane is a fast-paced shooter where you battle a string of bosses against a shrinking clock. Every fight depletes your time, which doubles as health and currency for new skills. You start with nothing but a basic weapon, earning over 40 abilities by defeating enemies. These powers can be mixed and matched between rounds, letting you tailor your approach to each boss’s attack patterns. The twist is that time is nonnegotiable, you either adapt quickly or face restarts from the beginning. What sets it apart is the relentless tension of time management and the variety of boss encounters. Each adversary has distinct mechanics, forcing you to rethink strategies constantly. The game runs on PC, consoles, and Switch, with a lean single-player focus. Community leaderboards track how far players get, though completion is notoriously tough, many don’t clear all 30+ bosses. The narrative, told from the archaeologist’s POV, ties into the gameplay’s cyclical struggle, but the real hook is the rush of squeezing every second to survive.

Storyline

An archaeologist specialized in the Seven Heralds story, has discovered an ancient map that leads her to the ruins where he may find one of the masks of the story. Digging among the rubble, she finds the seventh mask, Talaal. Before she can even notice, the mask blasts a cyan light, projecting into her face, possessing her. An explosion of light with the same color floods the temple reaching the forest. Talaal, the embodiment of Pride, uses the human as it’s vessel to be able to use its immense power. The story will be seen from her perspective, her taken freedom, and her sentence of being condemned to bring life to who now rules her.
