QS Defender is a side-scrolling shooter for the Sinclair ZX81. The screen moves left to right without the ability to reverse direction. You control a ship that can move vertically, fire, and speed up with thrust. Waves of enemies appear gradually, starting with a few and escalating to eight on screen. Each kill earns 100 points. The game gives you nine ships. Getting hit blackens the screen for a few seconds before restarting with one fewer ship. Replays require loading via BASIC code if all ships are lost. The simplicity of the design matches the ZX81’s limitations. Waves of enemies grow denser and faster, testing reflexes without overwhelming variety. Quicksilva’s approach focuses on tight controls and escalating tension. The black screen penalty after damage adds risk but maintains fairness. Despite minimal enemy types, the game gains momentum with each round. A brief but challenging experience for players who remember the early 1980s arcade ethos.
