About QuackSquad

QuackSquad is a chaotic top-down shooter where you play a duck defending your pond from zombie chickens. Developed by BoxCutter Game Studio and released on September 25, 2025, it’s a PC-only indie game that blends arcadey action with light RPG elements. The story revolves around General Quack, a villain threatening your home, while a mysterious bird named Nugget warns of an impending invasion. You’ll fight through waves of enemies, level up, and recruit allies to survive. It’s a short but punchy experience with a focus on fast-paced combat and quirky charm.

Gameplay

You control a duck armed with increasingly absurd weapons like a rubber duck launcher or a salad shooter. Each level throws hordes of zombie chickens at you, with boss battles breaking up the action. Progression involves grinding experience to unlock new gear and companions, like a loyal frog or a rogue penguin. The single-player campaign lasts around 8-12 hours, with minigames offering extra rewards. Controls are simple, mouse aiming and keyboard movement, but precision matters in tighter fights. The loop is repetitive but satisfying, balancing upgrades with escalating difficulty.

What Players Think

QuackSquad has a 8.7/10 critic score and 82% completion rate on PlayPile. Players average 11.5 hours to beat it, with 43% unlocking all achievements. The mood is mostly “funny” (68%) and “addictive” (55%), though 22% call it “shallow.” One user wrote, “It’s like a duck-themed Left 4 Dead, but with fewer braincells.” Critics praise the visuals and humor but note the lack of multiplayer is a downside. 74% of players spend $19.99, the game’s launch price.

PlayPile's Take

QuackSquad is best for fans of goofy arcade shooters who want a quick, colorful fix. It’s not deep, but the weapon variety and boss designs make it worth the $20 asking price. If you’re looking for a 10-hour distraction with a silly story and tight gunplay, this hits. Completionists will enjoy the 35 achievements, but don’t expect a lasting legacy. It’s a solid pick for rainy afternoons and duck lovers.

Storyline

On a magical pond with breathtaking views and crystal-clear water, birds live together peacefully and harmoniously (Only the smaller ones, since the bigger birds don’t fit!) That is, until one day, an outsider bird named Nugget arrives with a warning: they must prepare to defend their land because he is coming back… General Quack. Fight to defend the pond, face off against all the bosses, and search for a way to escape the endless loop—because when you start overthinking, even a simple game can reveal a story far deeper than it seems.
