Rad throws you into a radioactive wasteland where every step risks mutating your body into a grotesque power-up. As a teen scavenger armed with a trusty bat, you'll hack through hordes of twisted creatures while navigating a labyrinth of shifting environments. Progress hinges on adaptive playstyle choices, each mutation reshapes your abilities, forcing you to balance raw strength with unpredictable new forms. The rogue-like structure means no two runs feel quite the same. Double Fine’s signature whimsy clashes with grimy 8-bit visuals to create a memorable aesthetic. While not as visually detailed as some 2019 releases, the mutation system earned praise from indie-focused outlets. PC and Switch players especially highlighted the responsive combat and tight level design. With a runtime averaging 8-12 hours, it’s a brisk but replayable take on the action roguelike formula.
In RAD, the fate of the world depends on you, your trusty bat, and whatever strange new abilities you gain as the world around you ravages your body — twisting and mutating you into something far less than human, but far more powerful. Playing as a teenage protagonist, it is here where you must venture into the Fallow — an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures in the hopes you will find the solution to heal the world, and transform the cracked, barren landscape into a lush source of new life.
