Radical Castle is a point and click adventure from Christopher Kent Wigginton that puts you in the shoes of a Squire with a major case of mistaken identity. The king gives you an oracle recovery mission after you misrecognize the princess leaving you to navigate a castle’s puzzles with minimal help beyond your wits. The controls are simple, click to interact, but the challenge is in figuring out how to outsmart traps and riddles with the tools at hand. Released in 1986 as shareware this Mac exclusive title is a rare example of early point and click design. With its mix of slapstick humor and puzzle solving it leans into the absurdity of its premise without taking itself too seriously. Its limited runtime and simple graphics might not impress by today’s standards but highlight the ingenuity of early adventure games that relied more on clever writing than flash.
