About Rage 2

id Software released Rage 2 in May 2019 under Bethesda Softworks. This title launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia as a single player adventure. It blends shooter mechanics with racing elements and RPG progression systems. You play as Walker, the final Ranger left after an asteroid wiped out most of humanity. The Authority gang rules the wasteland while other factions fight for survival. The game promises chaotic combat across an open world where you can drive vehicles and use super powers to destroy enemies. It feels like a direct sequel to the original Rage but with a much bigger scope and more violent tone.

Gameplay

Sessions involve driving fast between zones and engaging in gunfights that rely heavily on movement. You have access to super abilities that let you dash or boost through enemy fire. Combat loops include tearing apart gang camps, collecting loot, and upgrading weapons at crafting stations. The vehicle sections allow you to fight while driving, using mounted guns and ramming tactics. Exploration requires scanning terminals to unlock fast travel points and find hidden caches. You manage an inventory of mods for your guns and suits. The controls feel responsive during firefights but the open world navigation can get repetitive when traveling long distances without specific objectives.

What Players Think

PlayPile data shows mixed feelings among players. IGDB lists a score of 69.3 out of 100 based on 210 user ratings. Average playtime sits around 18 hours for most users who finish the main story. Community moods fluctuate between excited and frustrated depending on how long someone has played. Achievement completion rates hover near 45 percent, suggesting many people quit before seeing all content. Review snippets from our members often mention the combat as fun but criticize the story as forgettable. Price drops to $7.99 on Green Man Gaming have increased interest recently. People who stick with it for over 20 hours tend to rate it higher than new players.

PlayPile's Take

This game works if you want fast shooting and driving without a heavy narrative burden. The price of $7.99 makes it a decent value for the combat alone. You will spend time unlocking weapon mods and super powers but the story lacks depth. It is not for players who want a deep role-playing experience or a tight linear campaign. The open world feels empty in areas and gets repetitive after a few hours. If you can tolerate the bland setting, the gunplay remains satisfying. Aim for completionists who enjoy grinding for collectibles to get the most out of it.

Storyline

An asteroid has annihilated 80% of the earth’s population, and humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule with an iron fist. As Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland and a threat to their power, you have been robbed of your home and left for dead. Now you’ll have to rage for justice and freedom. With ludicrous vehicle combat, super-powered first-person mayhem, and an open world full of emergent madness, you will tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling sadistic gangs to find the tools and tech needed to crush the oppressive rule of The Authority once and for all.
