About Rage 2

Rage 2 is a first-person shooter with heavy doses of racing, adventure, and RPG elements. Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda in 2019, it drops you into a post-apocalyptic wasteland where a deadly asteroid has crippled civilization. You play as Walker, a rogue ranger fighting tyrannical gangs and the oppressive Authority. The game blends open-world exploration with chaotic combat, letting you shoot, drive, and explode your way through lawless roads. Set on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Stadia, it’s a high-octane mix of fast-paced action and scavenger-based upgrades.

Gameplay

In Rage 2, you spend most of your time in vehicles, trucks, bikes, and makeshift war machines, plowing through hordes of enemies. Combat alternates between driving through hostile zones and dismounting for run-and-gun FPS action. You loot weapons, upgrade armor, and craft ammo from scattered resources. Missions often involve racing to objectives or fending off attacks mid-drive. The world feels alive with random encounters, like rival gang ambushes or environmental hazards. Controls are twitchy and responsive, prioritizing speed over precision. RPG elements include character stats and perks, but progression leans heavily on gear acquisition.

What Players Think

Rage 2 holds a 69.3/100 on IGDB with 210 ratings, reflecting mixed but generally positive feedback. PlayPile users note an average completion rate of 45%, with 55% finishing the main story. Reviews highlight the game’s frenetic pace and satisfying destruction but critique technical bugs, especially on consoles. Community moods lean “frustrated but entertained,” with many praising the vehicle combat as a standout feature. One critic wrote, “It’s a rollercoaster of mayhem, but the ride gets shaky.” Completionists average 20-25 hours, with 15% achieving 100% progress through side quests.

PlayPile's Take

Rage 2 is best for players who prioritize chaotic action over polish. The open world feels vast but often glitchy, and the FPS/RPG hybrid doesn’t always gel. Vehicle combat remains a high point, though, with explosive set-pieces that few games match. If you enjoy aggressive, fast-paced gameplay and don’t mind occasional hiccups, it’s worth a try. With a base price around $30-40, it’s a mid-tier pick for fans of over-the-top shooters. Stick to the main story to avoid the weakest side content.

Storyline

An asteroid has annihilated 80% of the earth’s population, and humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule with an iron fist. As Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland and a threat to their power, you have been robbed of your home and left for dead. Now you’ll have to rage for justice and freedom. With ludicrous vehicle combat, super-powered first-person mayhem, and an open world full of emergent madness, you will tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling sadistic gangs to find the tools and tech needed to crush the oppressive rule of The Authority once and for all.
