Raider is a 1983 arcade shooter that tasks you with piloting a spacecraft across a planetary surface and into underground caverns. You blast through waves of enemies and missiles while dodging terrain and managing a dwindling fuel supply. The controls let you maneuver vertically and horizontally to avoid hazards, using either bombs or a laser to clear obstacles. Each collision drains one of three lives, and the challenge ramps up as the action never slows down. What makes Raider stick out is its straightforward yet demanding gameplay. Despite being a Scramble clone, it carves out its own identity with the fuel mechanic, bombing fuel dumps becomes a vital survival strategy. The Sinclair ZX81 version holds a cult following among retro enthusiasts for its tight controls and relentless pace. While the graphics are basic by today's standards, the sheer speed and precision required keep it engaging for fans of old-school arcade thrills.
