Rainbow Islands Revolution is a vertical platformer where you navigate sinking levels by trapping enemies in colorful rainbows. You control a character ascending through stages that slowly disappear into water. Using a stylus you draw rainbows to freeze or destroy foes and create temporary bridges. Each level challenges your timing as you avoid falling hazards and reach the summit before the screen drowns. The biggest change here is the touchscreen controls. Instead of buttons you drag your character and draw rainbows directly on the screen. Breaking rainbows by tapping adds a tactile layer to combat. While the 2006 release faced mixed reviews for its control adjustments fans praise the creative use of the DS hardware. The bonus items from defeated enemies keep runs fresh with power-ups and point-boosting treats.
