About

Rance 01: Quest for Hikari revamps a 1989 classic with updated visuals and mechanics. This PC adventure mixes RPG elements turn-based strategy and point-and-click exploration. Players control Rance a rough mercenary as he searches for a missing noblewoman. The story unfolds through dialogue and interactive scenes where players examine objects and converse with characters. Battles use a grid-based system requiring tactical positioning. The remake expands on the original’s 8-10 hour campaign with enhanced presentation. The game’s blend of strategy and narrative stands out offering branching choices that affect outcomes. Rance’s abrasive personality contrasts with the mystery of Hikari’s disappearance which ties into political intrigue. While the tone and themes may not appeal to all long-time fans praise the faithful yet modernized approach. The standalone release focuses purely on this origin story separate from later series entries.

Storyline

Rance is a brutish and perverted warrior that makes a living from several paid jobs he gets from the local Keith Guild in the town of Ice in the Free Cities Alliance, along with his relatively recently purchased and faithful slave Sill Plain. One day, he receives a request to investigate the missing case of a noble girl from the majestic Kingdom of Leazas called Hikari Mi Blanc, who mysteriously disappeared after attending a prestigious academy in the capital of the country. Upon realizing that she's a cute girl, he accepts the job immediately and travels to Leazas along with Sill in order to find the missing girl, but he will soon find out that it's a case much deeper than it initially appears to be. And so his Quest for Hikari begins...
