Raven Blade started life as a simple project called "RPG" back in 1999 when Retro Studios first opened its doors. The team planned to build an adventure and role-playing experience for the Nintendo GameCube that would stand alongside their other early titles. A trailer eventually made it to E3 in 2001, showing off what looked like a solid fantasy world. Players expected to dive into a story-driven game with classic RPG mechanics designed specifically for the new console hardware. The project never saw the light of day because the studio decided to shift focus entirely toward Metroid Prime instead. This cancellation happened in July 2001 after developers hit several roadblocks while trying to finalize the systems. Fans who watched that trailer got a rare glimpse into what could have been a major entry in the GameCube library. The game remains one of those famous lost titles that only exists in concept art and screenshots today. It serves as a reminder of how quickly studio priorities can change during development cycles.
