Resident Evil 2: Dual Shock Ver. is a survival horror game that drops you into the infected streets of Raccoon City. You play as either rookie cop Leon or college student Claire, scavenging for ammo, solving environmental puzzles, and fighting off hordes of grotesque creatures. Combat is tense and methodical, with limited resources forcing tough choices. The fixed camera angles and clunky controls of the original return, adding to the vintage challenge. A "Rookie" mode eases newcomers into the action with a powerful starting weapon, while the "Extreme Battle" mini-game offers quickfire gunfights for extra practice. This PlayStation re-release polished the 1998 formula with DualShock analog controls and vibration feedback, making aiming and impacts feel sharper. Though the story remains a straightforward zombie apocalypse with no major twists, the game’s reputation as a genre-defining classic holds up. It retains a cult following for its punishing difficulty and atmospheric dread, with many praising its role in shaping modern horror games. At 10-15 hours of playtime, it’s a leaner experience than later entries but still packs a visceral punch for fans of old-school survival thrills.
