About Resident Evil 4 VR

Armature Studio rebuilt Resident Evil 4 specifically for virtual reality headsets like the Meta Quest 2 and Oculus platforms. Capcom released this version in October 2021 to bring Leon S. Kennedy's mission to Spain directly into your living room. You play as the special agent sent to rescue Ashley Graham, the daughter of the US President. The story takes place in a rural European village overrun by members of Los Illuminados and their Las Plagas parasite. This single-player adventure shifts the perspective from third-person to first-person VR. It reimagines the 2005 classic with mechanics that demand you physically move your body to aim and dodge threats instead of pressing buttons on a controller.

Gameplay

You spend your time manually reloading weapons, drawing knives, and aiming by pointing the headset forward. Combat requires precise tracking since enemies can rush you from any angle in the 360-degree view. You must physically duck or crouch to avoid attacks that would have been simple jumps in the original game. The movement feels clunky because teleportation is standard, which creates tension during chases. You navigate dark corridors and open plazas while managing scarce ammunition. Every encounter demands focus as you reload your handgun or shotgun with real hand motions. The game forces you to engage with the environment to find keys and solve puzzles that block your path forward through the village.

What Players Think

Critics gave this port a Metacritic score of 85 out of 100, which signals high approval for the VR adaptation. PlayPile data shows the community mood leans heavily toward "intense" and "gritty" during gameplay sessions. Players report an average completion time of around 14 hours to finish the main campaign on standard difficulty. Review snippets highlight the physical exertion required, with many users noting their arms get tired after a few hours. The lowest rated aspect remains movement speed compared to other VR shooters in our database. Despite this friction, the high replay value keeps average playtime figures robust across multiple sessions.

PlayPile's Take

This title is worth the $9.99 price tag if you want a genuine physical challenge rather than just watching a movie in VR. It suits players who enjoy tactical shooting and do not mind motion sickness risks from teleportation. You earn 40 achievements for completing tasks like finishing chapters without taking damage or finding all hidden secrets. The game is not perfect due to the clunky locomotion, but it captures the horror atmosphere better than any other console port we have tested. Buy this only if you want to feel the fear of being hunted in a real space.

Storyline

The game's main protagonist is Leon S. Kennedy, one of the few survivors of the Raccoon City incident, who was recruited and trained by the US Government to become a special agent after they learned of his actions in Raccoon City. Now an agent for a special security agency, Leon is sent to Spain on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the President's daughter, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious cult organization.
