"‎It is true that ‎‎the script is not novel, nor surprising, that it is a fairly linear adventure and there are campaigns that stand out from others,‎‎but for the price at which it is it is a good opportunity to enter a saga that we doubt will be as it was in the past. Therefore, you have to get used to this form of game, since ‎‎ ‎‎Capcom‎‎ ‎‎will bet on this line (it sold quite well, despite the criticism) and will leave the most classic form of game to other deliveries such as the Revelations subsaga. Therefore, if you manage to overlook the loss of the survival horror component, you will find a very good adventure.‎"

About Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 6 dropped on October 2, 2012, as the ninth main entry in Capcom's long-running horror franchise. It launches across PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC with a shift toward action over survival horror. The story spans six months in late 2012 and early 2013, placing it fifteen years after the Raccoon City incident. Four distinct campaigns follow different characters fighting a new strain called the C-virus. The game maintains an over-the-shoulder perspective similar to its predecessors but introduces a mechanic allowing movement while aiming. This title leans heavily into set pieces and large-scale combat rather than tight resource management or atmosphere. It is a massive multiplayer-capable shooter that prioritizes spectacle over stealth.

Gameplay

Sessions here feel like playing through four different movies where you switch between Leon, Chris, Ada, and Jake. You spend most of your time sprinting while firing automatic weapons at hordes of zombies and mutated bioweapons. The new slow-turn mechanic lets you strafe forward without stopping to reload, making the combat flow faster than previous entries. Each campaign features split-screen or online co-op for up to four players, though the game often forces you to swap partners mid-scene. You will encounter quick-time events that determine the outcome of cutscenes and boss fights. The structure is linear with occasional branching paths that converge at scripted moments. There is no inventory management system to speak of, and ammo is plentiful compared to earlier games in the series.

What Players Think

The PlayPile data shows a divided audience with an OpenCritic score of 62 out of 100 and only 21.62% of critics recommending it. IGDB users rate it slightly higher at 64.4 from 530 ratings. Reviewers note the sheer volume of content, citing four campaigns as a major plus despite the repetitive gameplay loop. Community vibes lean heavily toward Story-Driven experiences, though some players describe the mood as Intense and Dark. Competitive elements appear in the multiplayer modes where swapping partners adds variety. One reviewer from ZTGD gave it an 85, praising the immense amount of content available for the price. However, Areajugones noted the script lacks novelty and feels like a fairly linear adventure. The average playtime remains high due to the four separate stories you must complete to see the full picture.

PlayPile's Take

This title costs around $15.98 at its lowest point on Green Man Gaming. It is worth buying only if you want to finish every campaign and unlock all achievements without worrying about ammo scarcity. The game suffers from a weak script and repetitive combat that might bore players seeking deep survival horror elements. Four campaigns provide enough value to justify the cost for completionists, but the experience lacks the tension of earlier entries. You get a lot of content for the money, even if the quality varies between stories. Skip this if you prefer stealth or tight resource management over constant shooting.

Storyline

The game takes place over a period of at least six months from December 2012 to June 2013, over fifteen years after the US Government's destruction of Raccoon City, and takes place in various places around the world.
