Resident Evil: Deadly Silence reworks the original survival horror formula for Nintendo DS with dual-screen mechanics and touch controls. The top screen shows the action while the bottom displays a real-time map, helping you navigate the spooky mansion without backtracking as much. Tapping the lower screen lets you pick locks or switch to a first-person view during combat, adding a fresh layer to tense gunfights. Up to four players can team up wirelessly in co-op modes that split the screen or assign roles across devices. This anniversary edition streamlines the classic 1998 scenario without softening its bite. The Raccoon City police investigation retains its claustrophobic terror, though the updated controls make managing inventory and combat less frustrating. While Metacritic scores hover around 70, fans praise the clever use of DS hardware to modernize a decade-old formula. It’s a solid entry for newcomers curious about the series’ roots or veterans looking to revisit the beginning with one hand free to text.
On July 24, 1998, when a series of bizarre murders occur on the outskirts of the Midwestern town of Raccoon City, the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. team are assigned to investigate. After contact with Bravo Team is lost, Alpha Team is sent to investigate their disappearance. Alpha Team locates Bravo Team's crashed helicopter and land at the site, where they are suddenly attacked by a pack of monstrous dogs, killing one of the team's members. After Alpha Team's helicopter pilot, Brad Vickers, panics and takes off alone, the remaining members of the team (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and Barry Burton) are forced to seek refuge in a nearby abandoned mansion. It soon becomes very clear that it isn't just any mansion, but a hellish place where the undead walk the corridors and other horrors are lurking in the darkness, waiting to eat some heads.
