About Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village drops you back into the shoes of Ethan Winters after he thought his troubles ended with the Baker family saga. Capcom released this first-person survival horror sequel on May 6, 2021, across every major platform including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. The story picks up years later when Chris Redfield appears at Ethan's new home in a European village to deliver bad news about his missing wife. You must explore dark castles, rotting towns, and strange underground facilities while hunting down the seven lords who rule this cursed place. It balances resource management with fast-paced combat as you scavenge for ammo and health items to survive encounters with vampires, werewolves, and other grotesque monsters in a twisted nightmare setting.

Gameplay

You move through environments in first-person view while constantly checking your inventory for bullets, healing sprays, and crafting materials. Combat feels heavy and deliberate compared to previous entries since you cannot run indefinitely or reload instantly without pausing briefly. You switch between pistols, shotguns, and rifles to handle different enemy types that swarm you in tight corridors or open courtyards. The game includes a shop system where you sell collected treasures to buy better gear from the Duke. Exploring requires careful map reading because paths often loop back on themselves or hide secret rooms containing rare items. You also face boss fights that demand pattern recognition and precise timing rather than just spamming fire buttons.

What Players Think

Players and critics have responded strongly with a Metacritic score of 83 and an IGDB rating of 85.3 from over 500 users. The community vibes lean heavily toward atmospheric and intense, with several voters also labeling it creepy or hardcore. Average playtime sits high for a single-player title since many players chase the 56 available achievements. Only 33.7% of gamers have unlocked everything on average, proving how tough some sections feel. The rarest achievement "Knives Out" has been earned by just 3.60% of the player base. Review snippets often mention the shift toward action while maintaining classic horror tension. Most users agree that the resource scarcity creates genuine stress during late-game encounters.

PlayPile's Take

This title works best for players who want a long campaign with challenging combat and puzzle elements. The $9.99 price point at its historical low makes it an easy buy even if you missed the initial hype. You will spend time hunting for the elusive "Knives Out" trophy since the unlock rate is so low. It does not hold back on difficulty spikes during boss fights or dark sections where light sources are limited. If you liked Resident Evil 7, this sequel expands the scope without losing the tension that defined the reboot. Grab it now while the price stays low and start hunting those seven lords immediately.

Storyline

Years after the tragic events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Ethan Winters has started over with his wife Mia, finally living in peace and putting the past behind them. However, the legendary Chris Redfield from previous Resident Evil games suddenly disrupts their life, throwing a devastated Ethan into a new and twisted nightmare in search of answers.
