Resin is a 2D action-adventure platformer with a punishing combat loop and an unusual progression system. You play as an android woman tasked with destroying the last living creatures in a world run by machines. Each boss victory resets your stats to weaker levels forcing you to rethink tactics and experiment with new approaches. The game blends handcrafted levels with an open world design letting you explore non-linear paths while battling procedurally varied enemies. The game’s most talked about feature is its regressive leveling system which has sparked debate among players. With multiple endings and bosses that change attack patterns between encounters it offers high replay value despite a 72% Metacritic score. The stark visual style and morally ambiguous premise add depth to its 8 to 10 hour campaign. Many praise the difficulty curve though some find the lack of save points frustrating.
"The events unfold in a dying world, dominated by machines and artificially created lifeforms. Warmth generators, the very last remaining living creatures in the world are used by machines as energy sources. You control an android woman made out of Resin, who was programmed with a task to slay the Warmth generators. Ironically, without their vital energy her life would also fade away."
