Robo Army is a side scrolling beat em up where two police officers turned cyborgs battle their way through hordes of enemies. Developed by SNK and released in 1991 it casts players as Maxima and Rocky who team up to stop a mad scientist’s plan. The action is fast and punchy with simple controls and a focus on melee combat. Players can switch between characters on the fly each with slightly different moves. Levels are packed with robots and foot soldiers to smash through in a no frills arcade style. The game’s co op mode was a standout feature for its time letting friends share the screen. Though it never got a home console release outside Neo Geo systems it remains a cult favorite. With straightforward levels and a story that’s all bad guy get crushed it’s easy to pick up and play.
