Robot Ponkottsu: Moon Version is a turn-based RPG where you run a robot-collecting business as a kid named Cody. You battle rival collectors on a tropical island, using mechanical creatures called Robopon in strategic fights. Progress by defeating the top seven collectors to climb the rankings. The Game Boy Color version adds portable play to this 1999 Hudson Soft title. The game stands out with its mix of resource management and combat. Each Robopon has distinct skills and upgrade paths, encouraging thoughtful team builds. While it didn’t get widespread attention at release, fans praise its charming art and steady challenge curve. A lesser-known entry in the genre that rewards persistence over power.
Within Robopon Sun, Star, and Moon versions, the player assumes the role of a child named Cody, whose grandpa is retiring and gives him the family business, a Robopon Dispatching Company. Cody travels around Porombo Island collecting Robopon and battling against the "Legend 7", the top-ranked Robopon collectors on the island. Each time Cody successfully beats one of the Legend 7, he takes his or her place in the ranking system.
