About Rogue Mansion

Rogue Mansion is an indie adventure game from Almenara Games that blends survival horror with roguelike structure. Set in 1999 Greenhart City, it follows a procedurally generated mansion that shifts with each playthrough. Players assume roles of unique characters, each with distinct gear, perks, and motivations, to navigate a crumbling estate haunted by Lazarus Rogue’s grief. Released on June 30, 2026, it’s available on PS4, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch. The game thrives on tension: your fear level alters the mansion’s layout and hostility, creating a high-stakes, permadeath loop. Perfect for fans of randomized challenges and atmospheric dread.

Gameplay

Each run in Rogue Mansion lasts 45-60 minutes. You explore interconnected hallways, rooms, and hidden areas while managing a fear meter. Survive encounters with spectral entities using limited tools like flashlights, lockpicks, and makeshift weapons. The mansion evolves: high fear triggers traps, new enemies, and collapsing sections. Character choices matter, engineers can bypass locks, medics heal faster, but all face a brutal learning curve. Combat is tense and precise, requiring quick reflexes and resource management. Between runs, you earn currency to unlock new characters or perks, but the mansion resets each time. Controls are tight but unintuitive at first, with a focus on stealth and timing.

What Players Think

PlayPile users rate Rogue Mansion 8.2/10, with 78% completing at least one full run. Average playtime is 14 hours, though 22% of players log over 30 hours chasing 100% completion. Community moods skew toward tension (74%) and isolation (63%), with 41% calling it “a punishing grind.” Critics praise the procedural design but note repetitive enemy types and a steep difficulty spike at 30% fear. Price is $29.99, with 120 achievements averaging 8 hours for gold. Review snippets: “The mansion feels alive, but the UI is a mess” and “I love the roguelike loop, but some rooms are just endless backtracking.”

PlayPile's Take

Rogue Mansion rewards patience and persistence. It’s best for players who enjoy survival horror’s resource management and roguelikes’ randomized challenges. The $29.99 price tag is fair for 10-20 hours of punishing fun, but 120 achievements stretch replayability for completionists. Skip if you dislike permadeath or repetitive backtracking. For its genre, it’s solid but flawed, a love letter to 1990s horror tropes with modern roguelike structure. Not impressive, but worth a shot if you crave tension and tough-as-nails design.

Storyline

In the fading light of 1999, the peaceful streets of Greenhart City were shrouded in darkness. On its outskirts stood the majestic Rogue Mansion, an opulent residence once inhabited by the esteemed couple Lazarus and Catherine Rogue. Known for their power, wealth, and influence, they were the pillars of the community. However, tragedy struck when Catherine succumbed to an incurable illness, leaving Lazarus broken and consumed by grief. Overcome by despair, Lazarus chooses to end his own life within the mansion's grand walls. Now, months later, unexplained disappearances, strange sightings and disasters centred around the mansion have begun gripping the city. Nobody who has ventured inside to investigate the link has returned. The people of Greenhart need a hero.
