About

RPG Maker lets you build your own 2D role-playing games on PlayStation without needing coding skills. Using tile-based maps, you design characters, towns, and dungeons while setting up scripted events, treasures, and dialogue. Everything follows the 16-bit style of classic RPGs, with actions controlled through turn-based menus. You define pacing, place objects, and trigger events based on player actions. All projects save to memory cards, ready for you or others to play through. The tool sticks to fantasy themes since its graphics library is limited to that genre. But within those bounds, you can craft large adventures or bite-sized tales, leaning into drama or slapstick humor as you see fit. A separate Anime Maker mode lets you sketch and animate 2D scenes, adding another creative outlet. First released in 1997, it remains a straightforward way to tinker with game design basics.
