Electronic Arts brought the 1995 Rugby World Cup to the Sega Mega Drive in December 1994. You control real squads from the tournament including New Zealand’s All Blacks and South Africa’s Springboks. Gameplay focuses on passing and defending with controls designed for simplicity. The tournament mode lets you guide teams through the World Cup brackets. The EA All Stars team added a fictional element while the roster covered all 20 participating nations. It was one of the few rugby titles available on consoles at the time. The game’s timing matched the actual event giving fans a chance to predict outcomes before they aired.
