Sacred Seasons is a free-to-play RPG set in the troubled realm of the Heartlands. Players join others online to battle the spreading corruption of a deranged spirit through class-based teamplay. Four of 16 total character types become available each season, with new roles added over time. Combat focuses on class synergy and incremental skill upgrades as players work together to clear infected zones. The game’s rotating class system encouraged social play and gave the community something to track across updates. Launching in 2009 with browser access made it easy to jump in with friends. While no longer active, it had over 500,000 registered accounts at peak and remains a footnote in early browser-based RPG history. Emerald City Games later gained more recognition for their mobile titles but this title carved an early niche in seasonal content models.

Storyline

The Heartlands was once a peaceful place, but now legends says there is a corrupted great spirit, driven mad and set loose upon the world. Pockets of this madness are beginning to sprout up, and spread like a cancerous plague. It’s up to you and your friends to answer the call to arms and defend the Heartlands.
