Santa Monica By Night is a bite-sized point-and-click adventure crafted by two developers during a vampire-themed game jam. Set in a neon-drenched coastal city, you navigate a story where sunsets never come and shadows hide secrets. The gameplay leans into classic puzzle-solving with a brisk, no-frills approach, think inventory-based item combos and dialogue choices that rarely linger. Despite its rushed creation, the game carves out a moody vibe, balancing humor and horror in equal measure. What sticks is the sheer audacity of building a full adventure in just seven days. The writing feels sharper than expected for a jam entry, with dry wit and a surprisingly fleshed-out cast for such a small team. While it won’t rewrite the genre’s rules, it’s proof of indie creativity under pressure. The retro art style and synth-heavy soundtrack also hold up better than you’d guess from a 2019 release.
