About

Savage is a frenetic top-down shooter where you play a battle-hungry warrior swinging a massive axe through procedurally generated dungeons. Each level is a maze of narrow corridors packed with enemies you must dispatch in close combat. The action never slows as you dodge projectiles and slash through hordes of ghouls, demons, and other nasties. Your only goal is survival, progress by outlasting waves of increasingly brutal foes. The controls are tight but demand precision, balancing speed with timing to avoid getting overwhelmed. This 1988 release stood out for its relentless pacing and replayability across multiple 8-bit and 16-bit platforms. With versions on over a dozen systems including C64, Amiga, and Spectrum, it became a cult hit for its simplicity and intensity. Classic gaming forums still cite its chaotic fun and the challenge of mastering its brutal difficulty curve. No frills, just nonstop axe-swinging action.

Storyline

Fired by rage, Savage plunges into an orgy of violence, wielding his trusty battle axe in a manic fighting frenzy, dispatching all who stand in his way. Ahead of him awaits a labyrinth of dank and gloomy dungeons concealing a myriad of demons and ghouls, all ready to put a bloody end to his attempt to escape. The battle-crazed Savage will have to use all his skill and experience, as a master of hand-to-hand combat, to overcome this, the ultimate challenge.
