Sea Wolf is a 1976 arcade shooter where you play a submarine commander aiming a periscope to fire torpedoes at passing ships. The game uses a physical periscope controller that swivels left and right to track targets, with a button to launch attacks. Ships and other hazards like mines drift across the top of the screen while a time limit pushes you to score points before running out. Players must balance aiming, reloading, and avoiding obstacles as waves of targets increase in speed and density. What sets Sea Wolf apart is its mix of video and mechanical elements. The periscope reflects explosions and ammo counters via backlit transparencies, and a red "RELOAD" light signals when you need to wait. It also introduced one of the first high score screens in gaming history, letting players chase operator-set bonuses. With its tactile controls and early use of score tracking, it’s a relic of arcade ingenuity that still feels surprisingly snappy for its era.
