Sega Golden Gun is a co-op arcade shooter where you and a partner fight through a zombie-infested city using golden pistols. The guns auto-reload but can be manually reloaded faster by shooting offscreen. Three stages offer multiple paths, with quick-time events like hitting targets or fending off attacks. Co-op play lets two players combine shots for extra points, and each level ends with a boss drawn from Chinese folklore. Enemies dissolve into dust instead of blood, and the game lets you spend points on upgrades. The quick-time mechanics and mythological bosses add variety. While not graphically intense, it’s a fast-paced, replayable arcade experience with simple controls and escalating difficulty. Players who like The House of the Dead series might find the lack of gore refreshing, though the 2010 release date means it hasn’t aged as sharply as some modern arcade titles.
The only things between the Army of the Undead and the rest of the city are you two and your Golden Guns. Make sure you’ve got plenty of ammo! Golden Gun takes you and your partner on a perilous trek through a city filled with zombies, phantoms and countless other hideous and dangerous creatures. You’re outnumbered 10,000 to one but you’ve got the Golden Guns and that just might be enough.
