SegaSonic the Hedgehog is a fast-paced isometric platformer that swaps traditional level design for relentless horizontal dashes. Players control one or two of three characters using color-coded trackballs and action buttons. The goal is simple: outrun a constant stream of hazards like rolling boulders, collapsing platforms, and explosive traps. Movement feels precise but punishing as you juggle speed and survival. While the game includes a handful of enemies and a mid-game boss, the real challenge comes from the chaotic environment and tight co-op mechanics that require split-second coordination. The game’s frantic energy and inventive traps set it apart, though its short campaign and dated presentation may not wow modern players. Community reviews on Metacritic average 7.4/10, with many praising its intense action and nostalgic value. The final level’s 20-second countdown escape remains a standout moment, blending panic and precision. Despite its age, SegaSonic’s focus on pure speed and reflexes carved a niche in the Sonic legacy, earning it a cult following among arcade purists.
Sonic, Ray and Mighty have been kidnapped by the evil Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, who uses his large tank vehicle to do so. He takes them prisoners on Eggman Island: an island littered with traps and hazards that can be activated with the push of a button. Sonic, Ray and Mighty team up to escape the island, as the trio must survive the various hazards of the island and reach Eggman's Tower. As they arrive at the control room, Eggman presses a button that triggers a self-destruct sequence that will destroy the entire island. The trio manage to flee the island before the explosion. The evil doctor also escapes, but suddenly falls into the sea due to his Egg Mobile running out of fuel.
