Sengoku is a side-scrolling beat ’em up where you play as a warrior fighting waves of spectral enemies. The game mixes fast melee combat with simple platforming as you clear stages filled with shamans, hordes, and environmental hazards. Single-player mode lets you tackle the campaign alone while split-screen co-op supports two players teaming up. Each level throws new enemy types and boss battles your way requiring quick reflexes and timing. The game’s retro aesthetic and tight controls make it a standout for fans of old-school arcade action. Though the story is thin the gameplay loops are satisfying and the co-op adds replay value. Originally released in 1991 it’s still playable today on modern platforms. The pixel art and chiptune soundtrack give it charm that holds up even if the difficulty spikes can frustrate newer players.
