Sengoku Basara 4 is a fast-paced hack and slash game set during the dawn of the Sengoku Period. Players battle through historical conflicts with fluid melee combat and weapon-switching mechanics. The single-player mode follows the early years of the era while multiplayer and co-op options support split-screen matches for local play. Each character brings distinct abilities tied to their historical roles. The game features a shift in visual style as character design was handled by Tooru Ookubo from the anime adaptation instead of series regular Makoto Tsuchibayashi. This change introduced sharper, more animated features to the roster. A standalone expansion called Sumeragi added new story content and characters. Though the 2014 release leaned heavily on returning mechanics, the local multiplayer mode remains a strong draw for fans of the genre.
