Seymour Goes to Hollywood is a 1991 adventure platformer where you play a spud-shaped character trying to salvage a film production. Your goal is to blow up a locked safe holding the script using dynamite and collect 16 Academy Awards to hand out to actors. Puzzle-solving and object collection drive progress as you navigate studio sets and avoid obstacles. The game originally started as a Dizzy spinoff but became a standalone project with a redesigned character. It runs on DOS Amiga and several 8-bit systems. The game mixes platforming with point-and-click elements in a way that feels ahead of its time. Seymour’s chunky design drew polarized reactions but added to the charm for some players. Community ratings average around 7 out of 10 with praise for creative level design. A fun fact: developers had just 12 weeks to replace a canceled project. The task of detonating a safe and hunting Oscars in a pixelated studio lot remains memorable. Its quirky humor and hybrid gameplay make it a cult pick for retro fans.
Seymour has been given the starring role in a Hollywood film and duly arrives at the film studio to begin work. It transpires that the studio's boss, Dirk E. Findlemeyer the second, has taken a vacation to Miami. Findlemeyer has taken the key to his safe with him, which prevents filming from commencing because the safe contains the film scripts. Seymour must blow the safe with dynamite to access the scripts and then collect 16 Academy Awards from around the game and award one to each of the actors. Only then can filming commence.
