About

Shadowland is a side-scrolling platformer that drops you into a series of brutal, otherworldly levels. You play as Tarosuke, a mischievous youth condemned to wander hell for his misdeeds. The goal is simple: survive increasingly deadly environments filled with pitfalls, demons, and traps. Each stage throws new obstacles your way, mixing precise platforming with timed challenges. Controls are tight but unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and patience. The aesthetic leans into classic arcade simplicity, with stark, hellish landscapes rendered in pixelated detail. What really sticks is the game's punishing difficulty curve. Early levels test your coordination, but later stages feel designed to break you. Online communities still debate its fairness, with some players ranking it among the most brutal arcade titles of the late 80s. Its legacy isn't about polished design but relentless challenge, a relic that'll either frustrate you or make you a better player. A relic of the era's no-holds-barred platforming.

Storyline

Tarosuke, a boy who is always misbehaving with the people of his village, is punished by the gods by being carried to the entrance of hell while he is asleep, where he is to go around hell while still alive to be judged by Enma.
