"Shanghai Summer had enough ingredients to be a memorable story but failed to do so. Sprites were pleasant at first glance but were not properly used, and the elements external to the main story end up being forgettable. Combine this with the game's bad grammar, lack of cohesion, and layout issues, and the final result is a bad structure that failed to suport the game's best element: the story."

About

Shanghai Dragon is a 3D rail shooter set in 1937 Shanghai. You play as Jackie Hua, a resistance fighter battling Japanese forces during the occupation. The game moves on a fixed path, letting you focus on shooting enemies and saving civilians. Each rescue gives you health, weapons, or ammo. You can choose from seven guns, including a main pistol with endless bullets. The simple controls and fast action make it easy to pick up and play. The game mixes historical themes with the over-the-top action typical of rail shooters. It came out in late 2002 but feels like a relic from the early 2000s arcade scene. While not as well-known as similar titles, its straightforward gameplay and setting stand out. The fixed camera angles and on-rails movement keep the focus on trigger skills. Some players might miss deeper mechanics, but it delivers what it promises, nonstop shooting with a historical twist.
