Shanghai Karate is a one-on-one brawler where you control Lio Yin, fighting through a fixed layout to take down Wang Chen’s gang. The action happens on a single arena, with each foe needing four hits to go down. Eight different moves let you mix up kicks and punches, while the challenge ramps up as you progress. A two-player mode lets partners team up in a separate training zone, but the core experience stays focused on solo combat. This version diverges from the Amstrad CPC original, offering a more stripped-down but punchy arcade feel. The simplicity of the board and limited move set keep things fast, though the lack of varied stages means the focus stays sharp on combat timing. Players on C64 and Spectrum systems appreciated the split-screen multiplayer option, even if the main campaign remains short and direct.
