You play as a frogman exploring the ocean floor to gather exotic sea creatures and salvage treasures. Armed with a stun-gun and a retractable electromagnetic base, you fend off sharks and other threats while navigating murky underwater levels. Your diving suit can only withstand a few attacks before failure, and jellyfish are a guaranteed one-hit kill. Progress relies on memorizing paths, managing limited shields, and timing retreats to recharge safely. Sharks leans into old-school difficulty with tight controls and unforgiving enemy placements. Its inclusion in Action 52’s compilation helped preserve its reputation as a niche but brutal NES shooter. The simple art style and repetitive soundtrack highlight its 1991 origins, while the base-defense mechanic offers a brief strategic layer. Most plays end in quick deaths, but completing it feels earned.
