Shootanto: Evolutionary Mayhem casts you as a primate in a violent evolutionary race. Battle lizardmen through shifting eras starting in prehistoric times and advancing through medieval and modern ages. Surviving each wave of combat upgrades your character from a basic monkey to an apeman then a caveman knight and finally a soldier. The enemies adapt too, lizardmen gain new forms and abilities as the game progresses keeping the action fresh. The game’s hook lies in its evolving gameplay loop. Each upgrade changes how you engage enemies whether using primitive tools or medieval weapons. While the single-player campaign is straightforward the constant shifts in combat style add replayability. Released in 2008 for Wii it offers a quirky take on the shooter genre with a focus on progression over complexity.
