Shootout At Old Tucson is a live-action shooter that uses pre-recorded video clips for its visuals. Players take on a lawman role, making quick decisions during gunfights in a Western town. Each screen presents a real-world scenario filmed at Old Tucson Studios, with actors reacting to the player's choices in real time. The game emphasizes timing and reflexes, as wrong moves trigger instant game over. The title remains a footnote in arcade history due to American Laser Games shutting down shortly after release. Despite being one of the company’s first 3DO-based projects, technical hurdles limited its success. Only 30-40 units were produced, and the game never left arcades. Released on December 31 1994, it sits on PlayPile’s list of obscure but technically intriguing entries. Its blend of physical sets and interactive choices feels ahead of its time.
