Shrek: Hassle at the Castle sends players controlling Shrek Donkey or Fiona through a series of brawls and platforming challenges set in a fairy tale world. The game mixes side scrolling combat with timed button presses and environmental puzzles as characters fight through hordes of knights goblins and other obstacles. Each of the seven levels escalates the chaos with new boss battles and power ups that let you smash through enemy ranks. The controls feel a bit stiff but the fast paced action keeps things engaging for quick bursts of play. The game leans heavily into its Shrek 2 movie roots with recognizable characters and scenarios. While the story is a loose adaptation the cartoonish art style and familiar soundtrack make it easy to get into. Community reviews note the simplicity of the gameplay but praise the accessibility for younger players or those looking for a light beat em up. With three distinct characters to play as and a runtime that clocks in under four hours it’s a brief but colorful addition to the Shrek franchise. The Game Boy Advance version remains the most playable iteration of the title.
