Sightings from the Deep is a first-person photography game where you document monsters in a world on the brink of collapse. Instead of fighting creatures, you capture them with a camera, adjusting angles and lighting to highlight their behaviors. The twist comes from the setting: a grimy, Lovecraftian world where monsters are eradicating humanity. Your mission shifts after rescuing a humanoid monster that offers an uneasy alliance. You’ll track down aggressive creatures to trigger reactions, using their fear, anger, or curiosity to earn points. The game stands out for blending frantic monster encounters with deliberate photo composition. RazorFinger’s design leans into claustrophobic environments and grotesque creature designs, creating tension between the thrill of the hunt and the horror of the world. With 18 unique monsters and branching behaviors, players report averaging 8-10 hours to fully document the bestiary. Its cultish art style and moral ambiguity have drawn comparisons to Bloodborne, though the gameplay remains firmly rooted in its quirky, snapshot-driven core.
The premise of the story, is that you live in a world dominated by monsters, who have been driving out humankind for years. Hunting parties were formed, in an attempt to cull the monster population, but it's becoming clear that the humans are losing this war. You play as one such hunter, that one day, during a hunting expedition, finds an unusual monster, with humanlike mannerisms, very different from the usual monsters. Not being able to kill it, you rescue the creature, and bring them to your abandoned base. The creature then proposes a pact to you. If you show her strong emotions from monsters of this world, she can be rid of the monster infestation for you.
