Simon the Sorcerer is a classic point-and-click adventure where you play a teenager thrust into a fantasy world after a spellbook portals him away from his dog. The game leans into irreverent humor and absurd scenarios as you navigate goblins, wizards, and a quest to rescue a captured mentor. Puzzles often require creative thinking and item combinations, with a focus on slapstick logic over realism. The tone balances goofy dialogue with nods to myth and pop culture, making each location feel like a satirical twist on familiar tales. Its 1993 release on Amiga and DOS gave way to ports on modern platforms, keeping it accessible for new players. Community ratings on IGDB average 8.5/10, praising its enduring charm and clever writing. The game’s parody of stories like Lord of the Rings and Narnia feels fresh even decades later, paired with pixel art that’s both charming and expressive. While some puzzles may frustrate modern audiences, the sheer eccentricity of the world and characters ensures a memorable experience.
The story begins with the protagonist, Simon, as an ordinary teenager. His dog, "Chippy", discovers a chest in the loft of his house containing a spellbook titled "Ye Olde Spellbooke". Simon throws the book onto the floor in contempt, but a portal opens above it. Chippy goes through the portal and Simon follows. After entering the portal, Simon finds himself in another world. After escaping from some goblins who intended to eat him, he discovers that he has been brought on a quest to rescue the wizard Calypso from the evil sorcerer Sordid.
