About

Sir Fred is a 1985 platform game where you navigate a knight through a deadly castle to rescue a captured princess. Each screen presents a new room filled with traps, enemies, and obstacles. You’ll jump, dash, and interact with objects to clear paths while avoiding hazards like bottomless pits and patrolling guards. The challenge lies in memorizing layouts and timing moves precisely to survive the castle’s relentless dangers. Developed by Made in Spain and published by Mister Chip, the game ran on retro systems like ZX Spectrum and MSX. Its difficulty curve and lack of checkpoints made it a test of skill for 8-bit era players. Community archives note its unforgiving design and atmospheric storytelling through text-narrated levels. Released at year’s end in 1985, it carved a niche among Spanish developers experimenting with action-platformers during the golden age of home computing.

Storyline

The whistling of leaves in the forest wind is brutally interrupted by the appearance of a solitary figure among the bower of bushes. The biting northern air threatens to tear the robes of the great knight, "SIR FRED". His raging concern for the abduction of the princess he loves is not reflected in his unperturbed countenance. He only pauses for an instant, a fleeting breath to fix, like an arrow, his gaze on the castle walls and grit his teeth in despair. Never had he faced so many and so great dangers. In every corner, in every room of the great castle of the Beni-Gomez family, death awaits him, lurking. But there is no room for doubt and no time to turn back. The decision is already made. The earth runs, almost flies under the firm and implacable thrust of his feet.
