Sky Fox is a fast-paced vertical shooter with eight-way movement and layered scrolling starfields. You pilot a space fighter firing between slow but endless rockets and rapid-draining laser blasts. Power reserves and ship upgrades come from collecting pickups after defeating enemies. Up to two players take turns fighting waves of foes across shifting stage designs. The game shines in its varied enemy tactics. Later stages feature dragon-riding witches that need precise headshots for takedowns. Players can clear waves by either wiping enemies for bonus points or enduring relentless assaults. With its 1987 release and focus on precise timing, it holds a 7.5/10 on arcade preservation sites.
