Soccer is a two-player competition for the Magnavox Odyssey where you kick around a pixelated ball and try to score goals. The simple interface uses overlapping shapes to represent players and the ball, with controls that let you move, pass, and shoot. The game’s barebones approach focuses on basic offensive and defensive actions, making it quick to grasp but tricky to master. This was one of the earliest soccer video games, replacing an earlier Football title in 1974 export versions of the Odyssey. It uses game cards #3 and #5, which altered the system’s circuits to create new visuals and rules. Though primitive by modern standards, it holds a place as a historical footnote in sports gaming. Some retro enthusiasts have ranked it as a surprisingly addictive relic, with online communities noting its unintentional charm and how it laid the groundwork for later sports titles.
