Solar Storm is a fast paced arcade shooter for the Atari 2600 where you pilot a laser equipped ship against waves of attacking Deltoids and Shields. Each round ramps up the speed as enemies close in firing lightning fast proton blasts. Before long a distant sun explodes sending deadly debris hurtling toward your planet. You have to keep moving blasting threats to prevent catastrophic overheating. What stands out is the relentless pace and escalating tension. The solar debris mechanic adds a new layer of urgency forcing quick reflexes. Released in late 1983 it holds up as a relic of early multiplayer shooters. Its simple yet addictive gameplay has earned it a cult following among retro gaming fans.
