Solar Striker is a fast paced shooter that turns your Game Boy screen into a chaotic starfield. You control a spacecraft weaving through waves of alien ships darting in every direction. Rapid tapping or button mashing lets you blast through enemies while collecting power ups and extra lives floating in the void. The action never slows as new threats swarm in including angular bat shaped craft and spiky insectoid vessels. Simple graphics get swallowed by the frenzy of overlapping explosions and rapid fire. Despite its 1990 release this game still packs a punch with relentless difficulty and tight controls. The single player campaign offers short bursts of frantic shooting that fit perfectly with portable play. No fancy extras just pure reflex testing action. Older players might recognize it as a precursor to later rail shooters but here it's all about surviving one endless barrage after another. The simplicity makes it easy to pick up but tough to master.
