Soldier of Light blends side-scrolling shooter action with platformer mechanics. You play a lone soldier tasked with defending planets against waves of Federation forces. Armed with a basic laser, you fight through levels collecting random arms pods that swap your weapon between things like a shotgun or homing missile. Each mission ends with a space battle in a fighter jet, shifting the gameplay from ground combat to aerial shooting. The unpredictable weapon drops and need to plan your path through levels add a layer of strategy to the fast-paced action. The game stands out for its mix of genres and resource management. Despite its 1986 release, the random weapon system feels surprisingly modern, rewarding players who learn to adapt quickly. It was ported to nearly every 8-bit system of the era, proof of its appeal. While some levels can feel chaotic, the simplicity of controls and focus on varied enemy encounters keep it engaging. A cult favorite among retro gaming fans for its unpredictable rewards and dual gameplay styles.
Galactic High Command have issued a directive for you to rid the Galaxy of all of the Federation's infiltrators. You must choose which planets to defend, and in which order. Once on a planet you are alone against the hordes of the Federation. Armed with a single-shot laser you will find arms pods from time to time which will give you - if rather unpredictably! - different weapons to fight with. Succeed in your mission on each planet and you will be able to go on to the next one, and once in space you will face a fierce inter-planetary battle in your fighter craft
