Son of Aral lets you build and defend a customizable island in a mix of survival and strategy gameplay. You start with nothing but empty land and gather resources to expand your territory any way you see fit. Once the foundation is set enemies attack forcing you to arrange defensive structures to protect the island's core. The goal isn't just survival though as you eventually work toward escaping the artificial world you're trapped in. The game's open-ended approach to base building and layered defense mechanics set it apart from typical tower defense fare. Players appreciate the freedom to shape their island creatively though some note the combat can feel repetitive over time.
