Song of Calamity is an indie RPG that channels the feel of 16-bit classics while telling a modern story about identity and trauma. You play as Calamity, a half-human, half-fae girl who uses her special eyes to open rifts between worlds. She travels with a shadow cat named Maurice to understand her past while fighting dark fairies that represent real human struggles like addiction and mental illness. The gameplay mixes traditional turn-based combat with band management mechanics where you build a punk rock group to navigate cosmic threats. The game stands out for how it handles heavy themes without losing its charm or humor. Players can form bonds with bandmates through music-driven interactions that affect the story. Community ratings suggest fans appreciate the balance between serious subject matter and the quirky setting of a struggling indie band. The visual style captures that retro aesthetic while supporting a narrative that feels personal rather than generic. This title works well for anyone who likes deep stories wrapped in familiar mechanics.
The orphan girl Calamity is a child of two worlds. Half human, half fae, she is endowed with supernatural powers. Among her special eyes, that can see more than should be possible for a mortal, she is able to freely traverse between the human world and the fairy realm by tearing open temporary portals, called rifts. Together with her faithful yet mysterious shadow cat Maurice she sets out on a journey to find her place in the world and to learn more about her unknown and puzzling past. Not only are dark fairies to be beaten up, that are manifestations of traumata, addictions and mental illnesses of the human subconsciousness, but she also founds a sweet punk rock band along the way. United by music and the goal to achieve something in the tough music business, they are confronted with all sorts of strange events of cosmic scale that they can only survive together.
