About

Sonic: After the Sequel is a fan-made platformer that follows Sonic and Tails as they chase Dr. Eggman across new levels filled with speed-based challenges and classic-style action. Set between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, the game tasks players with navigating zones like Horizon Heights and Storm Station, using rings, power-ups, and precise jumps to outpace enemies and stop Eggman’s latest scheme. The controls stick close to the original games, emphasizing fast-paced movement and level exploration. The game leans heavily into nostalgia with its throwback level design and references to 90s Sonic lore. While it lacks official polish, its dedicated fanbase praises the faithful recreation of the series’ early mechanics and the intriguing setup of Angel Island’s mystery. With a runtime of around four hours, it serves as a brisk, if unspectacular, tribute to the era. Some players note rough edges in animation and enemy AI, but longtime fans of the classic titles often find it a worthwhile throwback.

Storyline

After the events of Sonic 2, Sonic is caught by Tails, who is piloting the Tornado. The duo then sees an island with a large metal ring hovering near its snow-covered mountain. They then decide to go and investigate this new island. After getting through Horizon Heights, Sonic encounters a small robot resembling Tails. It then activates and attacks Sonic, and after a brief duel, it's revealed to be a trap by Eggman. Sonic is trapped in a magnetic forcefield, unable to stop Eggman from stealing the Chaos Emeralds. Just before Eggman could get his hands on them, Tails knocked the emeralds away, sending them back to the Special Zone in the process. Eggman then makes a hasty retreat to his temporary base, Storm Station Zone, with Sonic and Tails in hot pursuit.
