About

Sonic Blast Man turns the arcade into a boxing ring. Players wear real boxing gloves and punch a padded target, with on-screen enemies reacting in real time to each strike. The faster and harder you hit, the more damage you deal to pixelated foes. It's a simple loop of button-mashing and physical input, but the tactile feedback makes it feel more involved than most beat 'em ups of the era. Released in late 1990, this Taito title was one of the first arcade games to use physical peripherals to drive core mechanics. While the graphics and soundtrack are forgettable, the novelty of swinging real gloves kept players coming back for high scores. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it’s a curious artifact of early 90s arcade experimentation.
