Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal follows Sonic and his crew as they search for a powerful relic on a secluded island. Amy’s discovery of an ancient script draws the attention of Lyric, a villain determined to harness its energy. To stop him, Sonic teams up with Tails, Knuckles, and Sticks the Badger, navigating treacherous terrain filled with traps and mechanical enemies. The game leans into classic platforming mechanics with 3D levels that use the 3DS’s hardware, plus optional co-op sections for splitting objectives. The title earned praise for its colorful visuals and tight controls but faced some criticism for repetitive enemy designs and a shorter campaign. Its focus on teamwork shines brightest in puzzle sections where characters’ abilities complement each other.
